New Year Resolutions: Euro IT Priorities In 2021

In a survey of 493 European companies ComputerWeekly/Tech Target have found that the pandemic has changed the IT project priorities for many, and has also widely resulted in reduced budgets. Prior to last spring 39% of the respondents reported plans to increase IT budgets but now in 2021, 88% are suffering from budget cuts or a budgetary freeze.

It’s not surprising that the easiest projects to gain approval relate to remote working/working from home and security/risk management, while automation projects are also gaining popularity. At the other end of the spectrum, recruitment and new application development are the most difficult to justify.

Micro Focus will be reassured that among the top 10 most popular projects getting the go ahead this year, include, multi-factor authentication, business process automation and email security. Massive growth is expected in application modernisation, ransomware protection and identity and access management.
